SARAJEVO, October 7 (FENA) - Deputy Head of the Delegation of the European Union to Bosnia and Herzegovina Ekaterina Dorodnova presented to the Prime Minister of the Federation of BiH Fadil Novalić the Report of the European Commission on Bosnia and Herzegovina for 2020, which provides an overview of our country's readiness for future membership in the EU with regard to relevant criteria (political and economic criteria, European standards).
This Report is part of the annual enlargement package published yesterday by the European Commission and refers to candidates and potential candidates for EU membership.
“Joining the European Union is our main priority and the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina undoubtedly know where they belong. However, fulfilling the conditions for that entry is our task, not the task of the EU,” said the FBiH Prime Minister.
Emphasizing that the domestic economy was hit the hardest by the coronavirus pandemic, Novalić pointed to the fact that the end of last year and the first months of 2020 were the period of the most successful economic development of the Federation of BiH in the last 25 years.
Prime Minister Novalić also said that Bosnia and Herzegovina must return to economic reforms, but that they must be implemented much faster.
During the meeting, the officials also discussed the comprehensive Economic and Investment Plan for the Western Balkans, which was adopted yesterday by the European Commission with the aim of encouraging the long-term economic recovery of the region. It is a plan that sets out a significant investment package that will mobilize up to nine billion euros for the Western Balkans region. It will support sustainable connectivity, human resources, energy, green transition and digital transformation, the FBiH Government's Press Service stated.
