FBiH Gender Center and Infohouse for empowerment of women victims of violence

FENA Muhamed Hadžibegić

SARAJEVO, March 8 (FENA) - The Gender Center of the Federation of BiH and the Infohouse Foundation signed a Memorandum of Cooperation on the project "Economic and Social Opportunities for the Independence of Women, Victims of Domestic Violence" in Sarajevo today.

The project is being implemented by the Infohouse foundation in cooperation with the association "Budućnost", and the goal is to empower at least 15 women victims of violence in the next 30 months to become economically independent by starting their own businesses.

Director of the "Infohouse" Foundation, Dženana Aladjuz, said that the foundation believes that the International Women's Day, March 8, is not a day to celebrate, but to remind the public that most women's rights are not respected in practice.

“This project is only a small part of what is needed because during the pandemic, the number of reports of domestic violence increased by 20 percent, and women were mostly fired in that period and became economically dependent,” Aladjuz emphasized.

She pointed out that this is important for getting out of the circle of violence, especially for women who are, in a higher percentage, forced to stay in a violent environment due to their economic dependence on a partner who is violent towards them.

The project "Economic and social opportunities for the independence of women, victims of domestic violence" is financially supported by the European Union.
