MOSTAR, January 7 (FENA) - President of the HDZ BiH and the Croat People's Assembly (HNS) Dragan Čović said that intensive negotiations on changes in the election legislation are still underway with representatives of the US administration.
"At today's session of the HNS Presidency, we talked about how far we have come in these negotiations and once again looked at all our limits and thoughts on how to preserve the legitimate representation of constituent peoples as a key value of the BiH Constitution and how, on the other hand, make limited changes to the Constitution," Čović said at a press conference.
Čović also announced that an extraordinary HNS assembly will be held soon, at which political representatives of the Croat people should discuss, as he said, other approaches to this matter, considering that no inter-party agreement on changes to the election legislation was reached in 2021.
Asked by reporters whether the HNS parties would boycott the general elections in BiH, which should take place in the fall, Čović said that was not an option for now.
"I would not boycott anything while we are still looking for solutions, if we are looking for them, it would be superfluous to add, as we say, strategy B, strategy C, which someone always has somewhere in reserve. I hope that this current political situation is such that we have no alternatives regarding the Election Law and the amendment of the Constitution. Croats, Serbs and Bosniaks do not have that luxury. Not a single BiH resident has that. All the problems in BiH arise from this issue," said the president of HNS.
He added that his focus remains on negotiations with the US administration.
