IGC: The police has to ban public celebrations aimed at humiliating the Prijedor victims

SARAJEVO, May 15 (FENA) - The Genocide Research Institute of Canada (IGC) condemned in a press release the intention of members of the Gavrilo Princip Youth Organization to celebrate the birthdays of Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban and the Pink TV owner Željko Mitrović on May 31.

The IGC points out that this is an obvious provocation because that day the White Armband Day will be marked in Prijedor in memory of the victims of horrific crimes against Bosniaks and Croats in that city in the past war.

"In order to commit genocide in Prijedor, which has been proven and supported by scientific facts, antagonisms and hatred were needed, which members of the Youth Organization 'Gavrilo Princip' show 30 years after the self-proclaimed authorities of Republika Srpska in Prijedor issued an order through a local radio on May 31, 1992, for the non-Serb population to mark themselves by wearing white armbands when leaving the house and to place white sheets on their windows.

This extremely humiliating act was confirmed by members of the European Monitoring Mission, who noticed white flags on Bosniak and Croat houses in the vicinity of Prijedor in August 1992, so that they could be distinguished from the Serb ones," the IGC emphasized.

They warn that the announcement of public birthday celebrations on the day when the whole world pays tribute to Prijedor victims through the White Armband campaign is a clear proof of the continuity of the fascist ideas reflected in mass violations of basic human rights and freedoms of refugees and returnees, survivors and witnesses of genocide.

"Frustrated municipal authorities of Prijedor never publicly acknowledged the actions of the then fascist authorities nor they have ever expressed repentance for the suffering of thousands of Bosniaks and Croats and offered a hand of reconciliation and repentance," says the IGC and calls on the Prijedor Police to ban the public celebrations because they represent an insult to victims and even more, they deteriorate the already disturbed inter-ethnic relations in Prijedor.
