TUZLA, May 25 (FENA) - The families of the victims, the citizens of Tuzla and representatives of all levels of government laid wreaths and flowers to mark the horrific massacre at Kapija (Gate), when the grenade fired from Mount Ozren on 25th May 1995 killed 71 persons and injured more than 200.
Prime Minister of the Tuzla Canton, Irfan Halilagić, led the delegation of the Government of the Tuzla Canton in the Alley of Youth in Slana Banja and at Kapija. The TC Government has included in the textbooks of primary schools the lesson about the tragedy at Kapija, but also many other facts from the period of aggression against Bosnia and Herzegovina.
“The massacre at the Gate is a painful wound, not only in Tuzla and the Tuzla Canton. When you read these names on the board, you can conclude that the aggressor and the criminal intended to kill the concept and idea of BiH with one grenade. But, unfortunately, he managed to kill the youth of Tuzla,” said Prime Minister Halilagić.
May 25 is the Day of Mourning in the Tuzla Canton, and the Mayor of Tuzla, Jasmin Imamović, points out that the Gate will forever remain the most painful wound in Tuzla.
“The Gate is the result of aggression, the result of terrorism, but also of those who took measures of terrorism and aggression, I am talking about Milošević, convicted war criminals, Karadžić, Mladić, Novak Djukić and I could long list those convicted of war crimes before various the courts. They not only committed the greatest possible crimes, but also denied those crimes. They have a simultaneous strategy of denying crimes and a strategy of denying lies. That denial of crimes and genocide is a threat to new war crimes and new genocide,” says Imamović.
The mayor of Tuzla said that Serbia cannot follow the path of European integration as long as it protects Novak Djukić, a convicted war criminal.
The commemoration of May 25 will end tonight at 8:55 p.m., at a time when a grenade fired from a RS Army position 27 years ago.
