SARAJEVO, September 25 (FENA) - The Islamic Community will have to resist the attempts to be silenced, it must offer fierce resistance to attempts to reduce the Bosniak people to a religious group, to condense them into enclaves and ghettos, whose fate would not be difficult to predict, said on Saturday the Raisul-ulama of the Islamic Community in Bosnia and Herzegovina Husein effendi Kavazović.

The regular session of the Assembly of the Islamic Community was taking place in Sarajevo on Saturday, and in his address to the assembly, Rais Kavazović said that the circumstances in which we find ourselves today are extremely complex.

"In the country we live in, over 70 percent of its territory, we are denied basic human rights. Our national name is denied in order to reduce us to a religious group; we are denied our cultural rights; our private and waqf property is being attacked; we are denied the right to build religious buildings... We live under a constant threat of conflict and the survival of the country: secession, glorification of war criminals, denial of crimes, promotion of groups and associations with fascist programs, often supported by the extreme part of the clergy and politicians, without distancing and convictions. There is almost no reaction to all this from domestic and international officials, authorities and courts, the OHR office and foreign embassies, or in most cases those reactions are very mild," said the Raisul-ulama.

He emphasized that "our struggle for a free and democratic Bosnia and Herzegovina will depend only and above all on ourselves."

"We must change the paradigm on which we base our relationship towards the country, state, society, public good, property and public affairs.

We must strongly advocate for people's freedom, public speech, responsibility for conducting public affairs, transparency in the exercise of power, public advocacy and reaching agreements, transparency in spending public funds, advocate for peace, human rights and the right to one's own cultural and religious autonomy," said among other things, Rais Kavazović in his address before the Assembly of the Islamic Community in Sarajevo.
