SARAJEVO, February 1 (FENA) - Public calls for applications for the four-year project "Culture and Creativity for the Western Balkans" (CC4WBs) financed by the European Union, implemented by UNESCO, the British Council and the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), were presented today in Sarajevo.

The project will enable experts from the cultural and creative sector, as well as media experts, to acquire additional knowledge and make the creative industries a new driving force in the Western Balkans.

Public calls are divided into two groups, namely projects for non-governmental organizations and for individuals engaged in creative industries.

The head of the UNESCO Office in BiH, Siniša Šešum, said that the project is worth 8 million euros.

"We saw that the culture and creativity sector was affected during Covid pandemic. Everyone focused on the virtual world, but it is necessary to bring creativity back to reality," he pointed out.

He claims that the project is extremely important because it is aimed at strengthening the reconciliation process, as well as helping EU candidate countries to open negotiation chapters.

The Ambassador of the United Kingdom in Bosnia and Herzegovina Julian Reilly said that in Bosnia and Herzegovina, there is great potential of creative industries. If communication and creativity are connected, he added, serious cooperation at the regional level can be achieved.

Director of the British Council for the Western Balkans, Peter Brown, pointed out that the project is characterized by two segments, namely partnership and cooperation.

He explained that it is a project of capacity building and professional development of professionals working in creative industries.

"An important part of the project is cooperation with the media to report on culture and projects that take place within the cultural sector," said Brown.

A representative of the EU Delegation to Bosnia and Herzegovina, Gianluca Vannini, believes that the region has a great capacity for further development of creative industries.

He added that there is also a Creative Europe project, which is implemented in Bosnia and Herzegovina, and which is supported by the EU.

"Creative Europe is "the main project that covers all similar initiatives because the potential of creative industries has been recognized in the region, and especially in BiH," he said.

Sarajevo is the first city where public calls for applications are presented. They will also be promoted in Banja Luka and Mostar.
