SARAJEVO, May 17 (FENA) - Due to heavy rainfall, overflowing of rivers and flooding in the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina, the most threatened areas are those in the Una-Sana Canton.
Yesterday, the city of Bihać also declared a state of natural disaster due to floods. The canton has already declared a state of natural disaster in two cities and one municipality. In addition to Bihać, Sanski Most and Bosanska Krupa have also declared a state of natural disaster, spokeswoman Majda Kovač told FENA.
She added that several buildings were flooded in Bihać and, unfortunately, the floodgates were activated, and that the civil protection staffs of Bihać and other municipalities and members of the civil protection are constantly on the ground and monitoring the situation.
"Where drinking water is needed, drinking water is delivered, where sandbags are needed, they have already been placed," said Kovač.
According to her, FUCZ is in constant contact with the cantonal administration and municipal services. The forces of the FUZC and human and material and technical resources have been put on standby.
"We are also in contact with the FBiH Government and Prime Minister Nermin Nikšić, and they have made themselves available and are on constant alert. We have teams that are based in the USC that can react very quickly," emphasized Kovač.
She noted that for now the cantonal administration has everything under control and can deal with this situation with its own resources.
Kovač emphasized that this morning all water levels are stagnant or dropping.
