BIHAĆ, July 18 (FENA) - The European Union organized a "Right to Justice" forum in Bihać, in which representatives of judicial institutions, civil society, the media and citizens participated. Those present had the opportunity to talk with experts about the rule of law and the transparency of the work of the judiciary, processing corruption cases, and corruption within the education system of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

After the "Right to Justice" public debates that were organized in Sarajevo in the past period, the EU Office in BiH organized a series of events on the topic of the rule of law in eight local communities in BiH, including Bihać. The goal is to hear the voice of the citizens, and the challenges they face, but also to facilitate a discussion with representatives of the judiciary who will present good practices and talk about their work.

"These are topics that are extremely important for the process of joining BiH to the European Union. The rule of law is one of the key factors and progress in the area of the rule of law is the first sign of whether a country is ready to start negotiations on joining the European Union at some point. The candidate status granted to Bosnia and Herzegovina in December last year is only an incentive but also proof that the EU believes in the European future of this country. However, the EU also gave an additional incentive to all of us in Bosnia and Herzegovina to make additional efforts. This applies not only to the holders of the highest authorities and the judiciary but also to citizens and civil activists and the media, that everyone in their field of responsibility should do as much as is necessary in order to gain the necessary trust in each other," pointed out the legal advisor in the Department for rule of law at the Delegation of the European Union in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Drino Galičić.

When it comes to the Una-Sana canton, he states that there is progress in these processes and that this canton is one of the few that jumps in the number of cases in this area.

Executive Director at Balkan Investigative Reporting Network Bosnia and Herzegovina (BIRN BiH) Denis Džidić points out that what is necessary to achieve is better appointments of judges and prosecutors, i.e. a more transparent process, more disciplinary punishments and more responsibility of the members of the HJPC. The third thing, probably the most important, is the introduction of a system of control of the property records of judges and prosecutors.

The rule of law and the equality of citizens before the law, as well as their safety, is the goal that the judiciary should serve. In this context, the USC Prosecutor's Office is committed to the fight against corruption and all forms of serious crime.

"In this direction, at the level of the entire prosecutor's system, appropriate strategic goals are adopted, which this prosecutor's office fully or mostly achieves, in proportion to its personnel capacities. When I say that, I mean the number of prosecutors working on this type of crime, and there are currently three of them. According to these personnel capacities, I think that our results and the determination of the Prosecutor's Office to work on it are respectable," said Chief Prosecutor of the USC Cantonal Prosecutor's Office, Fadila Amidžić.
