LIVNO, Feb 9 (FENA) - The Herzeg- Bosnian Canton (HBC) was admitted to the membership of the Adriatic-Ionian Euroregion at the General Election Assembly of the Association held on Thursday in Termoli, Italy, says the statement issued by the HBC Government .
On behalf of the Prime Minister of the HBC, his adviser, Ivana Miskovic, expressed thanks to those present on the occasion, pointing out that the European path both of the Canton and Bosnia and Herzegovina was welcomed and fully accepted, adding that important sectors such as agriculture, environment, tourism and culture, infrastructure and transport in the HBC are of crucial importance for sustainable socio-economic development.
She noted that joint areas of interests of the HBC and the whole Adriatic-Ionian Region (AIR) were, among others, inter-state and inter-regional co-operation through joint projects, sustainable development of rural and remote areas, protection of nature and the environment, especially valuable natural resources and heritage, as well as the involvement of civil society organizations, citizens and local self-government units in the decision-making process.
To remind, the Adriatic-Ionian Region is the association of territorial self-government units from Italy, Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania and Greece, located in the Adriatic and Ionian Sea, including national and international institutions.
Through joint acting, the AIR members encourage, promote and realize development in the region with the aim to create a perspective for improving the quality of life and standards of its population, says the statement.
