SARAJEVO, December 20 (FENA) - For the European Union, it is necessary to provide an adequate environment for the activities of civil society, it was said today at a panel discussion on the topic "Candidacy status of Bosnia and Herzegovina: The voice of civil society".
Senior Political Advisor in the EU Delegation to BiH, Fermin Cordoba, pointed out that the role of civil society is necessary and very important in all healthy democratic societies, and that Bosnia and Herzegovina cannot be an exception.
"Today's event is an excellent opportunity to show the potential of civil society, in efforts to support the accession process of Bosnia and Herzegovina as well as satisfy all 14 key priorities BiH needs to meet, which is even more significant in light of the candidate status that BiH has received," stated Córdoba.
According to him, it is even more significant that civil society has the necessary expertise for numerous areas, such as the fight against corruption, discrimination, gender equality, etc.
"For the European Union, it is necessary to provide an adequate climate for the activities of civil society. This is also reflected in the 14 key priorities," said Cordoba.
We hope, he added, that the new authorities in BiH at all levels will take advantage of what civil society offers and possesses and act in this way in all those important areas.
