SARAJEVO, March 2 (FENA) - Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Bosnia and Herzegovina Josip Brkić participated in the work of the segment at a high level within the 52nd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva.

On the sidelines of the session, Brkić met with the Deputy Director General of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Zhang Xiangchen. Further steps in the negotiations for Bosnia and Herzegovina's membership in the World Trade Organization were discussed.

Brkić informed Zhang about the engagement of state institutions and the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina and the commitment to solving open technical issues in the accession negotiations with the Russian Federation, as one of the next steps in the negotiations.

He also informed the interlocutor about the current economic trends in the country, the exchange of goods and services in the region, as well as the potential of the energy sector in Bosnia and Herzegovina, with a special emphasis on the use of renewable energy sources.

In particular, there was talk about the granting of candidate status to BiH, and it was confirmed that any membership of Bosnia and Herzegovina on a multilateral level, especially in an organization such as the World Trade Organization, strengthens our institutions and the country.

The process of integration into the EU and the multilateral system are important for the reforms of the state itself.

Zhang encouraged BiH to continue on the path to membership in the WTO, and offered technical support in the continuation of the negotiations.

At the end of the meeting, Brkić invited Zhang to visit Bosnia and Herzegovina and to make the entire accession process more visible to the World Trade Organization.

Bosnia and Herzegovina's request to join the World Trade Organization (WTO) was submitted in 1999, and negotiations were opened in 2003. So far, within the framework of the WTO Working Group for BiH, a total of 13 rounds of negotiations have been held, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of BiH announced.
